New ICTC Report: Automation and the Future of Tech Careers in Canada: What Students Need to Know  

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the information and communications technology (ICT) sector in Canada, driving significant changes in job roles and in-demand skills. As AI tools automate routine tasks and reshape workflows, there is an urgent need to equip the ICT workforce with the right skills and knowledge to thrive in this evolving landscape.

A new report from the Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) explores the impact of AI on ICT occupations, highlighting how automation is affecting junior roles while increasing demand for experienced professionals with complex technical and leadership skills. The report also provides career advice for ICT students navigating this rapid shift as they begin their careers.

COSN 2025State of EdTech District Leadership Report

CoSN conducts an annual survey to learn more about how the roles of K-12 EdTech Leaders are evolving. As districts continue to modernize their digital infrastructure, their role and importance expand. EdTech Leaders are integral to ensuring the safety of technology used for curriculum as well as technology used for building security. They help shape the learning environments intended to support all students, teachers, admins, and parents.

Now in its 12th year, the survey report provides important benchmarks on emerging AI technologies and evolving cybersecurity measures. It also provides valuable insights that can help inform the decisions of other education stakeholders

1. NFLD Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner Launches Investigation Into PowerSchool Breach

Commissioner Kerry Hatfield today announced that the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner would be commencing an investigation into the PowerSchool breach. That breach, which affected PowerSchool customers worldwide, impacted thousands of current and former students and teachers in this Province.

  2. Canada’s top youth scientists awarded $1.3 million at the 2025 Canada-Wide Science Fair in Fredericton

Fredericton, June 5, 2025 – From groundbreaking schizophrenia treatment research to innovative sea turtle robots, Canada’s top young scientists showcased world-class research and innovation this week at the 63rd Canada-Wide Science Fair. At an awards ceremony this evening at the University of New Brunswick, 219 finalists were recognized with nearly $1.3 million in scholarships and awards at the country’s premier youth science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) event. The fair’s Best Project Award in Discovery went to Sara Waqas from Calgary for her project, “Neurobiologically Informed Targeted Schizophrenia Treatment: A Multi-Omic, fMRI Approach”, while the Best Project in Innovation went to Evan Budz from Burlington, Ontario, for his project “Development of an Autonomous Bionic Sea Turtle Robot for Ecological Monitoring using AI”.

3. Uplift Aerospace Launches EdTech Division to Make AI, VR Tools
After encouraging results with its STEM education platform in middle school classrooms, a Utah-based space tech company has assembled a team of AI and VR specialists to build educational tools.

6. UCalgary team prepares to launch city’s first student-built satellite


The CalgaryToSpace team was created in 2020 with the purpose of giving undergraduate students experience in the space sector, which can often be seen as an intimidating field.  Since then, team members have been working to build FrontierSat, a tiny satellite (known as a CubeSat) about the same size as a loaf of bread.
