Top 10 'Crowd Sourced' Takeaways from the 16th Canadian EdTech Leadership AI Summit
-
Human-Centered AI is the Future
AI should empower, not replace, educators. Delegates agreed that human connection, empathy, and purpose must remain at the heart of learning innovation.
-
Equity, Access & Inclusion Lead the Way
Speakers emphasized that sustainable AI adoption must intentionally close gaps, ensuring all learners, regardless of background, benefit from the digital transformation.
-
Policy Must Keep Pace with Innovation
Leaders called for agile, collaborative AI policies that evolve with technology and reflect the voices of educators, students, and communities
-
Pedagogy Before Technology
Participants stressed that learning goals should guide AI integration, not the other way around. The why and how of teaching remain more important than the what of tools.
-
Professional Learning Builds Confidence
Educators left inspired but recognized the need for continuous, hands-on professional development to navigate AI with confidence and creativity.
-
AI Literacy for All
Understanding how AI works, its strengths, limits, and ethical implications, is now a core skill for both students and educators.
-
Ethics & Responsible Design Are Non-Negotiable
Transparency, data privacy, and fairness must guide every AI initiative. Delegates called for ethical frameworks to be built into every level of EdTech design.
-
Collaboration and Networking Sparks Innovation
Many delegates appreciated the interactive zones, discovery sessions and chance to connect across K-12, post-secondary, government and industry.
-
Hands-On Learning Delivers High Impact
Interactive sessions and live demos (from AI storytelling to design tools like Canva AI) were among the most celebrated experiences, blending creativity with real-world application.
-
Curiosity Over Certainty
A key takeaway: we don’t need all the answers yet. What matters most is maintaining a growth mindset, being curious, adaptable, and open as AI continues to reshape education.

1. Amii Welcomes Inaugural Consortium for the AI Workforce Readiness Program
|
|
|
Teachers play a crucial role in helping students build AI literacy, but they need more training, resources, and policy support to succeed. While AI can enhance learning, it also raises concerns around privacy, bias, academic integrity, and the potential decline of critical thinking skills. Preparing educators requires professional learning, foundational AI knowledge, ethical guidance, and collaborative spaces to design and share best practices. Strong investment in teacher preparation and support is essential to ensure students engage responsibly and equitably with AI in education. |

2. United States Education Technology Market to hit US$ 404.6 Billion by 2031 | Top Companies - Blackboard Inc., Byjus, Chegg, Inc.
https://www.openpr.com/ | October 31, 2025
|
|
|
A new DataM Intelligence report projects the U.S. Education Technology (EdTech) market will surge from $125.4 billion in 2022 to $404.6 billion by 2031, driven by rapid digital transformation and AI integration in learning. Key developments include major initiatives from Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic, which launched a nationwide AI teacher training program, and Google’s Gemini for Education expansion to over 1,000 universities. The report highlights strong adoption of platforms like Khan Academy’s Khanmigo and emerging VR and STEM tools showcased at EdTech Show & Tell 2025. With increasing demand for personalized, cloud-based, and lifelong learning solutions, leading companies such as Blackboard, Byju’s, Chegg, Coursera, Google, and Microsoft are positioned to shape a fast-growing, $400 billion digital education landscape by the end of the decade. |

3. Safe, Smart, and Supported: OCSB Students Learn to Be Internet Awesome
|
|
|
The Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) hosted more than 400 students from Grades 4 to 6 at Immaculata High School for an engaging digital literacy event led by Google Canada and MediaSmarts. Part of Google’s Online Safety Roadshow during Media Literacy Week, the session, titled Be Internet Awesome, taught students how to protect their privacy, create strong passwords, and practice kindness and empathy online. OCSB Director of Education Mary Donaghy emphasized the board’s commitment to helping students become confident, responsible digital citizens who use technology ethically. The event reflected OCSB’s values of wellness, community, and innovation, empowering students to lead with integrity in an increasingly digital world. |
|
|
The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) has paused new Chromebook purchases for its 1:1 Student Device Program, signaling mounting financial pressures within Canada’s largest school district. The decision halts new device acquisitions for incoming students, potentially widening the digital equity gap and straining older hardware beyond its typical four-year lifecycle. Experts emphasize the need for stronger device lifecycle management, recommending proactive maintenance, repair prioritization, and the use of ChromeOS Flex to extend usability. As the TDSB and other Canadian boards grapple with sustainability challenges, the move underscores the urgent need for long-term funding strategies to maintain equitable access to digital learning tools. |

Combining animated prompts and personalized feedback, the tool supports children, parents, and therapists by making social-emotional learning more engaging and accessible. As part of a rapidly growing AI-in-education market projected to exceed $160 billion globally, EmotiKids explores opportunities for school and clinical partnerships, licensing, and pilot funding. While experts emphasize the need for privacy safeguards and clinical validation, Mao envisions the platform as a supportive companion to traditional therapy, aiming to foster understanding and connection for neurodiverse learners. |

This comprehensive initiative underscores Canada’s commitment to supporting innovation, equity, and global competitiveness in its research ecosystem. |
|
|
The U.S. Department of Education has unveiled a $167 million plan under its Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) to reshape higher education through AI innovation, accreditation reform, and workforce training. The initiative dedicates $50 million to advancing AI in classrooms and expanding computer science education, with 25 national grants expected to support adaptive learning tools, teacher training, and student success programs. Another $7 million targets accreditation reform, encouraging flexibility and competition through support for new accrediting bodies, while $50 million will fund short-term, workforce-aligned academic programs to strengthen employment pathways. Framed as part of a broader effort to modernize higher education, the plan reflects the government’s push to align postsecondary learning with emerging technologies and national workforce needs. |

https://digitalpromise.org/ | November 3, 2025 |
|
|
Digital Promise has launched the K-12 AI Infrastructure Program, a $26 million, four-year initiative designed to strengthen how artificial intelligence supports teaching and learning. In partnership with Learning Data Insights, DrivenData, Georgetown University’s Massive Data Institute, and Catalyst @ Penn GSE, the program will fund open-source datasets, models, and benchmarks to improve the accuracy, safety, and inclusivity of AI tools in education. Guided by principles of responsible governance and universal benefit, all outputs will be publicly licensed to ensure accessibility for educators, researchers, and developers. The initiative invites public input through a Request for Information, with formal grant proposals set to open in early 2026, marking a major step toward building a trustworthy and equitable AI foundation for K–12 learning. |
|
|
Washington State is taking a proactive approach to integrating artificial intelligence in education, developing one of the first statewide AI guidance frameworks known as “Human-AI-Human” (H-AI-H). The model, introduced by State Superintendent Chris Reykdal and supported by Microsoft, emphasizes human oversight before and after AI use, ensuring that technology enhances learning without replacing critical thinking. Educators like Adam Aguilera are already applying AI to personalize lessons and streamline curriculum planning, while state leaders explore AI-driven efficiencies in transportation and budgeting. Despite concerns about cheating, mental health, and overreliance on technology, Washington aims to lead the nation in responsible AI education, balancing innovation with ethics, safety, and human-centered learning. |
